These are two separate steps and mixing them up is one of the most common sources of confusion. Packing With Purpose
You will be on your feet a lot, so comfortable, well worn-in sandals matter more than most people expect. Men will need Ihram garments, and it is worth packing a spare set. Everyone benefits from lightweight, breathable clothing, a small daypack for water and a prayer mat, sunscreen, and a portable charger, since your phone will be doing a lot of work for navigation, permits and staying in touch with family.
