Umrah price checker – compare packages, save on your pilgrimage

Two Umrah packages can sit next to each other with almost the same price tag and still lead to completely different trips. One includes airport transfers and a hotel a five minute walk from the Haram. The other leaves you an hour away with a taxi fare you never budgeted for. If you have spent any time comparing quotes online, you already know that the sticker price rarely tells the whole story.

Here is how to actually compare Umrah packages properly, what tends to hide inside a suspiciously low price, and what to check before you commit a deposit.

Work out what the price is actually meant to cover

Before you compare numbers, list out what each quote includes. A genuine like for like comparison needs to cover the same ground: flights, visa processing, hotel category and distance from the Haram, ground transport between Makkah and Madinah, and whether a guide or group leader is included. Two packages priced a couple of hundred dollars apart might not be comparable at all if one includes return flights and the other does not.

It helps to write these out as a simple checklist and tick off each package against it. Missing information is itself a red flag. If an operator cannot tell you exactly which hotel you are staying in, or only gives a star rating without a name, ask directly before you pay anything.

Hotel distance matters more than the star rating

A four star hotel fifteen minutes from Masjid al-Haram by shuttle is a very different experience to a four star hotel three minutes' walk away. Distance affects how much walking you do each day, especially during Tawaf and Sa'i, and how easily you can get to the mosque for each prayer. When comparing packages, ask for the exact walking distance or the transport arrangement, not just the star rating.

Understand what drives the visa and flight portion of the cost

Visa and flight costs are the least flexible part of any Umrah package because they are set largely by government and airline pricing rather than by the travel agent. The official Saudi eVisa portal shows current eligibility and visa categories, which is useful context when a quote seems unusually low on this line item. Umrah visas booked through the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's official platform, Nusuk Umrah, are issued through licensed service providers, so a package that skips proper visa documentation to save money is not actually saving you anything if it puts your entry into the country at risk.

Watch for prices that look too good to be true

If one quote comes in dramatically lower than every other quote you have gathered for the same dates and hotel category, treat it as a question mark rather than a win. Scamwatch, run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, has repeatedly warned travellers about fraudulent flight and travel booking websites that copy the look of legitimate operators and offer unusually cheap fares to lure in customers. The warning signs they list apply just as well to Umrah packages: no verifiable Australian contact details, prices well below everyone else, and pressure to pay quickly.

Know your rights once you have paid

Once you have booked and paid a deposit, you are entitled to certain protections regardless of who you booked through. The ACCC's guidance on travel delays and cancellations explains that consumer guarantees apply to travel bookings made through agents and intermediaries, including the right to a replacement service or refund if what you paid for is not delivered within a reasonable time. Keep every confirmation email and payment receipt so you have something to point to if a dispute comes up later.

A simple way to compare without the guesswork

Rather than juggling five browser tabs and a notebook, ask each agency the same set of questions and record the answers side by side: hotel name and distance, meal inclusions, transport between cities, visa processing time, and total cost with nothing hidden until the final invoice. Our Umrah guide breaks down what a typical package should include stage by stage, which is worth a read before you start collecting quotes.
